WSA teaming up with BCIU and TRACIT on Illicit Trade at the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings

Illicit trade is a growing global threat. It undermines economies, fuels organized crime, and often puts lives at risk. Its impact varies across regions, but the damage is widespread – lost tax revenue, weakened institutions, and harm to legitimate businesses.  In sectors like pharmaceuticals and spirits, the risks go beyond economics. Fake medicines and counterfeit alcohol can seriously endanger consumer health, sometimes with fatal consequences.

The World Spirits Alliance is teaming up with Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) to host a high-level breakfast roundtable on 25 April 2025, during the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings. The event will bring together policymakers from governments and international organizations to discuss how to step up the fight against illicit trade.  We’re also proud to have Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade, our long-standing partner in this space, presenting the latest Illicit Trade Environment Index. This tool offers crucial data and insights that help shape stronger policies and foster collaboration.

The team is looking forward to a meaningful and action-driven conversation! Learn more about the event here: https://bciu.zohobackstage.com/WORLDBANKIMFBreakfastRoundtableonIllicitTradeTrends
