The World Spirits Alliance (WSA) was honoured to support the Barbados National Day Celebration held on the WTO Terrace in Geneva during the WTO Public Forum 2026.
Hosted under the leadership of Ambassador Matthew Wilson, the reception marked a significant milestone as Barbados celebrated 60 years of independence. The evening brought together representatives from governments, international organisations, industry and civil society for an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas and celebrate Barbados’ rich heritage.
As part of the celebration, guests were invited to discover the history, craftsmanship and cultural significance of Barbadian and Caribbean rum. More than a spirit, rum is deeply woven into the traditions, communities and economies of the Caribbean, reflecting centuries of history and cultural exchange.
The reception also offered an opportunity to explore the stories behind two specially created cocktails served during the evening. Guests learned about the global journey of Caribbean rum through The 1651, while Well-Measured Company highlighted the importance of understanding standard drinks and making informed choices about alcohol consumption.
By combining culture, heritage, and education, the event celebrated the unique heritage of Barbados and fostered meaningful conversations and international engagement in a convivial setting, enhanced by the presence of Caribbean rum.
