World Spirits Alliance CEO Helen Medina recently spoke with Global Drinks Intel journalist Olly Wehring in a two-part interview discussing the origins of the organisation, its strategic vision, and the role of the spirits sector in global policy discussions.
In the interview, Helen reflects on the evolution of the WSA—from a loose gathering of distillers meeting annually for more than 20 years to a formalised trade association based in Geneva representing 34 members worldwide.
She highlights that every spirit tells a story of craft, culture and care, and that the sector supports millions of jobs across agriculture, production, hospitality and retail.
Helen also emphasises the importance of partnership in addressing the harmful use of alcohol. The WSA works alongside governments, international organisations and civil society to promote evidence-based policies and responsible consumption.
