WSA Publishes Report on Global Economic Contribution of Spirits Sector

Case Study
WSA Publication

WSA is proud to present the first-ever comprehensive Global Economic Impact Study by Oxford Economics and IWSR, highlighting the significant contributions of the spirits industry to the global economy!

In 2022, our industry added an impressive US$730 billion to global GDP, supported 36 million jobs worldwide (equivalent to the entire UK workforce) and generated US$390 billion in tax revenue. Additionally, with an annual spend of US$120 billion on third-party suppliers like grain and grape growers and bottle-makers, our industry fuels a wide range of sectors.

This study underscores the vital role our sector plays in driving growth, job creation, and innovation across various industries, from agriculture to hospitality. It also showcases our commitment to product innovation, responsible drinking, and premiumisation. Notably, 50% of spirits sold in 2022 were at premium level or above, reflecting consumers’ growing preference to “drink less, but better.”
